Nasarawa Targets First EV Factory Using Lithium Reserves

Governor Abdullahi Sule made the pledge on Sunday during an event marking the second anniversary of his second term, organized by the Abdullahi Sule Gidan-Gidan Support Group.

Highlighting recent milestones, he referenced the launch of a lithium processing plant by Avatar New Energy Materials Company Limited in the state. He emphasized that setting up an EV assembly factory aligns with the Federal Government’s agenda on clean energy and reducing fossil fuel dependence.

Governor Sule stated his administration is actively engaging investors and stakeholders to ensure the transition from lithium processing to battery production and eventual vehicle assembly takes place within the state. He expressed hope that even if the goal isn’t realized during his tenure, future leadership would carry it forward to completion.

He added, “This project, once achieved, will be a major step towards transforming Nasarawa into the top economic hub we envision.”

Sule commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, pledging to align the state’s development strategies accordingly. He also assured the public that his remaining time in office would deliver improved governance and economic outcomes.

Deputy Governor Dr Emmanuel Akabe echoed the significance of the lithium find, attributing its exploration and exposure to the governor’s proactive leadership. He stressed the strategic importance of lithium in powering electric vehicles and affirmed Nasarawa’s role as the country’s lithium capital.

Chairperson of the support group, Hussaina Sule, listed notable infrastructure projects completed by the administration, including flyovers and underpasses in Lafia and Akwanga, and the ongoing construction of a new state secretariat complex. 2.2 Million Candidates Sit for 2026 UTME Nationwide.

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) began nationwide on Thursday, with over 2.2 million candidates expected to participate across accredited centres.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
