FCTA Not Targeting PDP — Wike’s Aide Clarifies Secretariat Sealing

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has dismissed claims that the recent sealing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat was politically motivated.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

On Monday, the FCT Administration sealed off the PDP headquarters, along with several other properties, over alleged non-payment of ground rent — a move that sparked backlash from the opposition party.

Responding to the criticism, Olayinka stated in Abuja that the enforcement action was purely administrative and not a targeted political operation.

“We are not here for politics,” Olayinka said. “The same enforcement was carried out on Ibro Hotels, Access Bank, FIRS, and Total Petrol Station. Tomorrow, we will proceed to other locations as part of this ongoing process.”

He explained that the FCTA’s operation aims to recover owed ground rent from over 4,000 properties across the capital territory. The sealing of affected buildings, he emphasized, is a lawful action being implemented without bias or political intent.

“This exercise will continue as long as we are able to take possession of the identified properties,” he said. “No one should politicize what is a standard legal process.”

In contrast, the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, condemned the move, describing it as a “direct attack” on the party. He insisted the party would not take the development lightly and hinted at a formal response in due course.

While the PDP views the action as potentially punitive, FCTA authorities maintain that all entities — regardless of political affiliation — are subject to the same regulations.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, April 20, 2026, Abdullahi attributed the growing interest to developments involving prominent political figures such as David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, which he said have drawn increased public attention to the political landscape.

He explained that many Nigerians are becoming more engaged in political activities as they closely observe unfolding events and seek to participate more actively in the democratic process.

According to him, the situation has heightened awareness among citizens, leading to increased political participation and a steady influx of new members into the party.

Abdullahi stated that the surge in registrations became noticeable after INEC’s decision affecting David Mark, noting that many Nigerians now have a clearer understanding of ongoing political developments.

The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, with factions led by Nafiu Bala and David Mark both laying claim to the party’s structure.

The dispute, which dates back to July 2025 following the emergence of an opposition coalition, has resulted in prolonged legal battles.

Citing a March 12 judgment of the Court of Appeal, INEC announced that it would not recognise either faction, a position conveyed in a statement by its National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Mohammed Haruna.

The electoral body added that it would refrain from engaging with both groups, including participation in their meetings, congresses, or conventions, pending the outcome of a case before a Federal High Court.
