EFCC Arraigns Bank Staff, Others Over Alleged ₦8.5bn Fraud in Lagos
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, May 23, 2025, arraigned three employees of a first-generation bank and four others before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, over an alleged ₦8.5 billion fraud.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Those arraigned include Samuel Ihechukwu Asiegbu, Fabian Chizaram Onyeimachi, and Kingsley Kelechi Ejim, as well as Hannah Okunlola Adesokan, Hamza Zakariya, Achionu Chukwuka Ubaku, and Sunday Osademe.
The seven individuals face an eight-count charge involving conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence. They are accused of unlawfully accessing funds from accounts domiciled at Wema Bank Nigeria Plc.
One of the charges states that in January 2025, the accused conspired—alongside others still at large, including Nurudeen Ibrahim and Alhaji Sulaiman—to defraud the bank and benefit financially, an offense that violates Section 27(1)(a) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty.
EFCC counsel Aso Larrys Peters requested that the court set a date for trial and remand the defendants in custody. However, the lawyer representing Hannah Okunlola asked that she be kept in EFCC custody due to health concerns.
Justice Daniel Osiagor adjourned the case to June 6, 2025, for the commencement of trial.
He ordered that five defendants be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service, while Kingsley Ejim Kelechi was allowed to remain on his existing bail terms. Hannah Okunlola was ordered to remain in EFCC custody until trial.
