n a Christmas message issued by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN called on Nigerians to mark the festive season with wisdom, vigilance, and a strong sense of responsibility. He acknowledged the prevailing security and economic difficulties but emphasized that Christmas serves as a powerful reminder of God’s enduring love and the triumph of hope over darkness.
Archbishop Okoh urged church leaders, particularly those serving in vulnerable and remote communities, to take deliberate steps to guarantee the safety of worshippers during Christmas celebrations. He stressed that the essence of Christmas lies in living out the values embodied by Christ, including love, peace, patience, sacrifice, and compassion, even in challenging times.
He further advised that in areas with limited security presence, church authorities should prayerfully consider holding services in safer locations or organising smaller gatherings that would allow for better protection of members. The CAN President also appealed to security agencies to strengthen their presence around places of worship throughout the festive period.
Okoh encouraged churches to maintain close collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure peaceful and hitch-free celebrations. He also called on Nigerians to remember those affected by violence, displacement, and hardship, urging collective compassion and solidarity during the season of goodwill.
He concluded by calling on all citizens to recommit to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and national unity, stressing that Nigeria’s future depends on the shared resolve of its people. He prayed that the joy, peace, and hope of Christmas would fill homes, churches, and communities, and that the New Year would usher in renewed faith, healing, and lasting peace across the nation.
