People of Ijesaland Can Expect Transformational Leadership from Owa Adesuyi Haastrup – Olori Omolara
In a heartfelt interview, Olori Omolara Oluwatoyin Haastrup, wife of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup Ajimoko III, Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, shared insights into their life together and what Ijesaland can expect from her husband’s reign.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reflecting on her journey with the monarch, Olori Omolara expressed deep gratitude for their years together, acknowledging the highs and lows of married life. They met in 1988 when she was an undergraduate at the University of Ilorin, and their love story soon led to the birth of twin sons while she was still in school. She recalled how she transitioned into motherhood and embraced the role of stepmother to two daughters from her husband’s previous marriage. Over the years, the family grew to include six children, including their late daughter, Princess Yetunde, whose memory continues to inspire the family.
She described Owa Haastrup as a man of rare character—humble, generous, and deeply respectful of others, regardless of status. She recounted how his treatment of those around him, like his driver Baba Ilaje, stood out as examples of dignity and courtesy rooted in the Ijesa tradition. Even before assuming the throne, he lived a life of service and compassion, often supporting people quietly without fanfare.
Olori Omolara highlighted qualities in her husband that resonate deeply with Ijesa cultural values—community-mindedness, humility, faith, dignity, and industriousness. These traits, she noted, are essential to the Ijesa identity and are evident in Owa’s everyday conduct. His fluency in the Ijesa dialect and pride in local cuisine underscore his cultural grounding and authentic connection to his roots.
Though he initially had no desire to become king and even expressed this openly, she believes his destiny was divinely orchestrated. When the call to ascend the throne came, he accepted it not out of ambition but obedience to a higher purpose. She emphasized that while he may not have prepared in a conventional sense, his life experiences, character, and compassion shaped him into a natural leader.
Before becoming monarch, Owa Haastrup built an impressive career in pharmacy and business. His sharp acumen, work ethic, and strategic thinking earned him respect in Nigeria’s business community. This background, Olori Omolara believes, positions him uniquely to bring tangible development to Ijesaland. His reign, she says, will be marked by visionary leadership focused on economic progress, youth empowerment, education, and sustainable partnerships.
In conclusion, Olori Omolara reaffirmed her full support for her husband’s reign and shared their joint commitment to the people of Ijesaland. She described their calling as one that extends beyond royal duty—a shared mission to bring dignity, progress, and lasting impact to their community.
