The declaration was made by the State APC Chairman, Hon. Benjamin Omale, during a gathering with party members and key stakeholders at his residence in Makurdi. Omale described the meeting as a demonstration of unity, strength, and renewed commitment by the APC family in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

He explained that the assembly was also intended to thank God for His protection and guidance over the party in 2025, while appreciating the loyalty and sacrifices of party members, particularly youths and women, for their unwavering support at all levels.

Hon. Omale emphasized the importance of cohesion among party members, stating that the re-election of Governor Alia remains non-negotiable. He commended the youths of the party for acting as “homefront soldiers” in support of the APC’s objectives in the state.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Terver Gbanda, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation and Illegal Levies, praised Omale for his transparent leadership and commitment to the growth of the party. He noted that the meeting was both timely and essential to strengthen party unity and ensure the successful re-election of Governor Alia in 2027.

The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Adebisi Abimbola, described the reports as false and misleading, clarifying that no directive was issued to probe any sexual harassment allegations against the cleric. She explained that the matter did not arise in that context at any point.

Abimbola said the issue originated after a journalist forwarded screenshots and social media posts to the police, raising concerns over alleged murder-related claims linked to Pastor Okafor. She noted that the Commissioner was merely briefed on the existence of the online posts and did not initiate any formal investigation.

According to her, the information was passed to the Commissioner strictly for awareness, after which he instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to verify the authenticity of the murder allegations circulating online. She stressed that this verification exercise should not be misconstrued as the launch of a comprehensive probe.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that no invitation has been extended to Pastor Okafor or any other individual in connection with the matter. She added that the police social media team is still monitoring and reviewing the online claims. Abimbola urged the public and the media to refrain from spreading unverified information, reiterating that the Commissioner only directed a fact-check on the murder-related claims and did not authorise any investigation into sexual harassment.

In a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the assaults as brutal and inhumane acts carried out by criminal elements. He noted that the attacks resulted in the loss of lives, the abduction of residents and the destruction of means of livelihood across the affected communities.

Governor Bago conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, stressing that those killed at the Kasuwan Daji Market in Sukumbara village included both Muslims and Christians from different communities within Borgu Local Government Area.

He lamented that the state was beginning the new year on such a tragic note but urged residents to remain steadfast in faith and united. The governor assured that his administration is working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security and restore peace in the affected areas.

He further disclosed that a joint security task force has been deployed and is actively pursuing the attackers with the aim of rescuing those abducted. Governor Bago also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased, the safe return of the kidnapped victims, the recovery of the injured and the restoration of livelihoods destroyed during the attacks.
