Shettima Champions Youth Potential as Anthony Joshua Faces Crossroads in Boxing Career

Published

on

Anthony Joshua is still not ready to step back into the ring, with his promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirming that the British-Nigerian heavyweight’s comeback remains up in the air as he continues to recover from elbow surgery.

The 35-year-old has not fought since suffering a devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last year, a defeat that led to corrective surgery and a prolonged break from boxing.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

During his hiatus, Joshua has been on a high-profile tour across Africa, making notable stops in Nigeria and Ghana.

Speaking to Boxing Social, Hearn gave an honest update on Joshua’s condition.

“To be honest, he’s not quite there yet,” Hearn said. “Training camp hasn’t started, but we’re getting close. We spoke recently, and I told him, ‘You’ve got to tell me when you’ll be ready.’ He mentioned end of October, but he’s also open to fighting in November or December.”

Hearn confirmed that Joshua is likely to fight just once in 2025, though his next opponent remains a mystery.

“I genuinely have no idea who it’ll be,” Hearn admitted.

While names like Dillian Whyte and Jared Anderson were previously discussed, Whyte is now scheduled to face rising star Moses Itauma on August 16, and there’s been no movement on a potential fight with Anderson.

Meanwhile, American heavyweight Deontay Wilder has reiterated his interest in fighting Joshua, saying, “I’m ready. As long as we’re both in the division, I’ll always be open to it.” However, Wilder is currently preparing to face Tyrrell Anthony Herdon later this month.

Joshua is also said to be closely watching the upcoming July 19 bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois—both of whom have handed him past defeats.

Despite the uncertainty, Hearn is still pushing for the highly anticipated showdown between Joshua and Tyson Fury, a clash many fans see as the pinnacle of British boxing.

“If the Tyson Fury fight doesn’t happen, it would be a major disappointment,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “There’s no reason it shouldn’t. That fight needs to happen—it would be a defining moment not just for British boxing, but for British sport as a whole.”

Looking ahead, Hearn hinted that Joshua may be nearing the twilight of his career, suggesting 2026 could be his final year in the ring.

“2026 could mark the end of the road,” he said. “One last push to close out what’s already been an incredible career.”

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
