The operation, carried out on Friday, was part of the ongoing Operation Forest Sanity III, led by the 17 Brigade Strike Group. According to the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the offensive struck a significant blow to the terrorists’ capabilities.
In a statement issued Saturday, Mu’azu disclosed that the troops launched the assault at about 8:50 a.m., engaging the terrorists in a fierce gun battle. The intensity of the military strike reportedly forced the militants to abandon their positions and flee into the surrounding bush and rocky terrain, using livestock as cover.
Undeterred, troops pursued the insurgents, including those attempting to escape across a nearby river. According to Mu’azu, all 21 terrorists were neutralized, some drowning in the river while fleeing. No casualties were recorded among the military personnel.
Recovered from the scene were a cache of weapons and communication equipment, including:
-
One General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG)
-
Five AK-47 rifles
-
One pump-action shotgun
-
21 AK-47 magazines
-
17 Motorola communication radios
Ammunition seized included:
-
74 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition
-
448 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
-
Four pump-action cartridges
-
Two RPG-7 chargers
-
One RPG-7 bomb
-
Five CS 48mm hand grenades
Other items included a Baofeng handheld radio, six mobile phones with extra batteries, camouflage gear, three magazine pouches, personal belongings, and ₦15,260 in cash. Troops also recovered approximately 40 motorcycles and an unspecified number of rustled cattle.
All recovered materials are currently in military custody pending further action. Mu’azu noted that operations are ongoing and troop morale remains high.
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism. Speaking from the State House, he reaffirmed the state government’s support for the Armed Forces in their mission to restore peace and security in the region.
Governor Radda urged the soldiers to remain resolute and sustain their offensive against all criminal elements threatening the state.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
