The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has voiced his strong support for President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the current economic and security issues in Nigeria are not of his making. Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, after meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Eno highlighted the President’s efforts to implement significant reforms, despite the mounting public dissatisfaction surrounding inflation, subsidy removal, naira devaluation, and security challenges—issues that many critics attribute to the current administration.
“The problems we are facing today were not created by President Tinubu,” Eno remarked. “He is doing his best, and Nigerians should offer their support to help him navigate these challenges.”
The Akwa Ibom governor further described Tinubu’s first two years in office as “remarkable,” underscoring that transformative leadership often involves making difficult decisions with long-term benefits in mind.
Governor Eno also took the opportunity to showcase the progress his administration has made in Akwa Ibom, particularly in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and market development. He pledged to focus on large-scale infrastructure projects, with plans to turn Akwa Ibom into a key tourist destination.
In terms of youth development, Eno stressed his commitment to job creation, skill acquisition programs, and support for small and medium enterprises, as part of his efforts to strengthen the middle class in the state.
Reflecting on the leadership history of Akwa Ibom, Eno praised his predecessors for laying the foundation for the state’s current progress. He concluded by asserting that while there is always room for improvement, Akwa Ibom is doing well in comparison to many other regions.
