Curb Terror Propaganda to Boost Troop Morale, Minister Tells Media
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has appealed to Nigerian media professionals to adopt a more security-conscious approach in their reportage, urging them to withhold the publicity often sought by terrorist groups.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at the seventh edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series at the National Press Centre in Abuja, the minister emphasized that the editorial direction taken by media outlets plays a critical role in influencing public sentiment and boosting the morale of the Armed Forces.
He said, “As guardians of public information and key partners in national development, the media must spotlight the victories and sacrifices of our military. Our troops are held in high esteem by allies and feared by those who challenge our peace.”
Idris stressed that the war against insecurity extends beyond armed engagement—it also includes a psychological battle for public perception, which terrorist groups are exploiting through coordinated propaganda, especially on social media.
He urged media editors to avoid sensationalizing acts of terror, warning that such coverage can inadvertently amplify extremist narratives. “We must keep them off the front pages and portray them accurately—as criminals, not martyrs. These are not freedom fighters; they are murderers, kidnappers, and enemies of progress,” he said.
Calling for responsible journalism, the minister described it as essential not only for Nigeria’s peace and development but also for regional stability across West Africa and the wider continent.
Reaffirming the Tinubu administration’s commitment to security, Idris cited improved military capabilities, intelligence gathering, personnel training, and strategic international partnerships as evidence of ongoing progress. He noted that national security remains a top pillar of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, underscoring that peace is the foundation for lasting development.
