The prosecution revealed that Isaiah, along with his accomplice Saviour Daniel—who died during the trial—conspired to abduct and murder James on February 6, 2024, in Ado Ekiti. The victim had contacted her colleagues, reporting that she had been kidnapped, and her captors were demanding a ransom of N100,000.

After the police tracked the ransom demand calls, the kidnappers were arrested, and they led officers to where the body of James had been abandoned. During the trial, the Director of Afrika Brothel in Ado Ekiti testified about James’ abduction and murder.

Isaiah, in his statement, admitted to the crime. He explained that after efforts to secure the ransom failed, he and his accomplices decided to kill the victim by pouring herbicide into her mouth, fearing she had seen their faces.

Justice Olatawura ruled that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond reasonable doubt and declared Isaiah guilty of all counts. The judge stated that no sympathy could be extended to the defendant, given the severity of his actions.

“It’s not about electing a candidate indirectly at the general election. If INEC could conduct elections during the COVID-19 era, political parties can certainly hold direct primaries,” Ezeokenwa said.

However, he noted that the stance of IPAC (Inter-Party Advisory Council) highlights a critical concern: “The National Assembly’s position on primaries tends to stifle smaller political parties, which often lack the resources to organize direct primaries on a large scale.”

He added, “Consider nominating a presidential candidate and conducting primaries across over 8,800 wards nationwide. The logistical demands of direct primaries are immense. That is why IPAC is urging the National Assembly to bring back the indirect mode of primaries.”
