Four Nigerian Soldiers Killed in ISWAP Assault on Army Camp
At least four Nigerian soldiers were killed following a brutal attack on the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State, on Saturday, May 3, 2025. According to Naija News, the Force Headquarters confirmed the clash involved an exchange of gunfire with suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The military has not yet provided further details regarding the incident. However, a security source who narrowly escaped the attack shared insights, explaining that the assault began around 2:00 AM with heavy explosions and gunfire. The attack led to the destruction of several military assets and equipment, resulting in the tragic loss of four soldiers. The source added that the terrorists also suffered casualties during the intense firefight that lasted for several hours.
This incident comes just one day after the North East Governors Forum met in Damaturu, Yobe’s state capital, to discuss a coordinated approach to tackling insurgency in the region.
Buni Yadi, situated 65 kilometers from Damaturu, is the hometown of Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni. Local residents have been fleeing the area in search of safer locations due to the ongoing violence. The Nigerian military also imposed restrictions on vehicular movement on the main road connecting Yobe to Biu and other towns in southern Borno.
This attack follows a similar incident two weeks ago, when Boko Haram militants targeted a military site in Buni Yadi, killing three soldiers. Over recent months, Borno communities have experienced a surge in insurgent attacks, with militants targeting military sites and villages, resulting in troop displacements and the loss of weapons and equipment.
Local leaders, including Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, have called on the federal government to take stronger action against the insurgent threat.
