VP Shettima Represents Nigeria at Gabon President Nguema’s Inauguration
Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Saturday, May 3, 2025, for Libreville, Gabon, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Gabon’s newly elected president, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, Nguema, who had been acting as interim leader since a 2023 military intervention, secured an overwhelming victory in the country’s April 12 presidential elections. Final results from Gabon’s Constitutional Court confirmed that Nguema won 94.85% of the votes, amounting to 58,074 ballots cast in his favour, far ahead of his nearest rival, former Prime Minister Alain Claude Bilie-By-Nze, who polled just 3%.
Nkwocha emphasized Nigeria’s continued commitment to democratic stability in Central Africa, noting that the country fully supports Gabon’s peaceful political transition. Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria immediately following the inauguration ceremony.
Meanwhile, in domestic politics, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has firmly backed Shettima’s position as Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections. This declaration comes amid growing calls by the North-Central Renaissance Movement for a vice-presidential slot from the region as a condition for their support in the next poll cycle.
In a statement released by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the group distanced itself from the demands of the Renaissance Movement, stressing that such agitation does not reflect the position of North-Central APC stakeholders. They reaffirmed their endorsement of both President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for re-election in 2027.
Zazzaga further urged the president to ignore campaigns pushing for a change in running mate, labeling them as attempts to sow division within the administration.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
