EFCC Detains Social Media Activist VeryDarkMan Over GTBank Dispute
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Nigerian social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), amid growing public attention surrounding alleged banking misconduct.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the development in a statement via his official Facebook page on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Reports suggest that the arrest stemmed from a public spat between VDM and Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), following allegations of unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account. VDM had openly criticized the bank, leading to speculation that GTB was instrumental in facilitating his arrest.
Providing further details, Adeyanju disclosed that a legal team from his firm, led by Marvin Omorogbe, visited the EFCC facility where VDM and a friend—who was arrested alongside him—are being held. According to the update, VDM declined to meet with the legal representatives.
“VDM was held at the GTB exit door for over five minutes to allow EFCC agents to apprehend him and his associate,” Adeyanju stated. “We intend to initiate legal proceedings against GTB for what we view as the degrading and unlawful treatment of our client.”
The incident has triggered a wave of concern on social media, with many questioning the bank’s role and the transparency of EFCC’s actions.
