Using the handle @ochanyalamai, Lamai has built a follower base of over 19,700 on the platform. Her posts, which humorously capture campus life, have made her a viral sensation and a subject of both praise and scrutiny.

Self-described as “Mummy Gen-Z,” Lamai wears many hats—content creator, music lover, broadcaster, entrepreneur, and academic. Her vibrant online presence and close interactions with students have earned her a fan base of admirers who applaud her for breaking traditional lecturer stereotypes.

While many social media users celebrate her for bringing positivity and relatability to academia, others have criticized her style, deeming it unprofessional for an academic figure. Nevertheless, Lamai continues to enjoy strong support across the platform, where fans commend her for blending entertainment with education.

In a recent video addressing her critics, she offered a witty response via lip-sync to Ruger’s Afrobeat hit “Giveaway,” signaling that she remains unfazed by the backlash.

Her lyrics echoed confidence:
“I am obsessed, I am so in love with myself. I dey burst my own brain, still impressed with myself. You cannot shame the shameless, you gats work on yourself…”

Lamai’s frequent TikTok appearances alongside students have been described as unusual for someone in a lecturing role, yet many find her style refreshing.

While some professionals, such as fellow TikTok user and lecturer Boyce Iyamah, expressed concern about the image being portrayed, others applauded her authenticity. One user commented, “I think this woman is the only female lecturer in Nigeria that is happy to be a lecturer.” Another quipped, “To graduate no go even sweet me if I were in this school.”

Though her methods may divide opinion, Ochanya Lamai continues to stand out as a unique voice within Nigeria’s academic and digital spaces.
