This latest initiative, held at the IITA headquarters in Ibadan, follows similar empowerment programs conducted in Abuja, Kano, and Ogun States. Around 70 selected beneficiaries received a broad range of agricultural support tools, including solar-powered irrigation systems, improved cassava stems, rotary slashers, defeathering machines, fertilizers, high-yield maize seeds, gari fryers, vegetable seeds, fish and poultry feeds, seedling trays, coco peat, knapsack sprayers, power generators, and gari pressers.

Speaking at the event, Professor Michael Abberton, Head of IITA’s Genetic Resources Center and representative of the senior management, congratulated the recipients. He encouraged them to fully utilise the resources provided and build on the support system offered through the project.

“Young people are central to our agribusiness vision. This support is a stepping stone for expanding your ventures and creating employment opportunities,” Abberton stated, noting the initiative’s reach across critical value chains such as poultry, cassava, horticulture, and aquaculture.

Aline Mugisho, CEO of IITA Youth Agripreneurs, represented by business expert Idowu Osun, reaffirmed the institute’s dedication to sustained mentorship. “Agribusiness is a viable venture. Our team is here to guide and connect you through training and networks,” she said.

Project Coordinator, Adebayo Awotodunbo, expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of the Netherlands for funding the project and emphasized accountability in the usage of the distributed items. He warned that any beneficiary found reselling the materials would be dropped from the program.

One of the beneficiaries, Ayomikun Oyesiji, lauded the training and input support, stating that her agribusiness had seen significant progress since joining the program.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Surpassing Competitors: Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed confidently stated that, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke outperforms all other presidential contenders currently in the political space.

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
