Gunmen Kill Two, Abduct Ogun Businessman in Midnight Hotel Raid

Panic gripped residents of Ilara, a town in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, after armed men launched a late-night attack on Wednesday, killing two individuals and abducting a well-known businessman, Ade Bendel.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Local sources told PUNCH Metro that the attackers stormed the community around 11 p.m., unleashing a barrage of gunfire. The victim, Ade Bendel, was reportedly trailed to his hotel by the gunmen before he was kidnapped amid the chaos.

Speaking to our correspondent, the town’s traditional ruler, Oba Mutiu Adedimeji, confirmed the abduction and the deaths. “Yes, the incident occurred. Ade Bendel was kidnapped last night, and two people were killed in the process. His abandoned vehicle was found in Sabe, Benin Republic, which indicates that was their escape route,” the monarch said.

A youth leader in the community, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the event, explained that the attackers opened fire indiscriminately upon arrival at the hotel, fatally striking two people, including a female hotel staff member.

Another resident, known simply as Ade, reported that several individuals sustained injuries while attempting to flee the scene, with two women reportedly falling into a ditch during the panic triggered by the gunshots.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated she was still gathering information on the incident. However, a police officer in the area confirmed the kidnapping but refrained from disclosing casualty figures or further details.

The community remains in a state of fear as authorities begin investigating the cross-border attack, which saw the abductors escape into the Republic of Benin.
