This was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, who explained that the e-CDF is part of the agency’s ongoing digital modernization efforts aimed at reinforcing border control and ensuring transparency in currency movement.
The pilot, which launched on April 9, 2025, ran smoothly and effectively demonstrated the system’s capability to digitally capture both inbound and outbound currency declarations, providing a secure, efficient, and accountable process for international travelers.
According to the data, 69 declarations were processed during the pilot period — 51 outbound transactions totaling $1,200,281.22 and 18 inbound transactions summing up to $177,786.88.
The e-CDF system was developed to comply with international standards for anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CFT), offering real-time data that aids intelligence gathering and cross-agency collaboration.
NCS, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, reaffirmed its dedication to leveraging technology to promote compliance, facilitate legitimate travel and trade, and safeguard Nigeria’s borders.
Following the success of the Abuja rollout, the Customs Service announced plans to extend the e-CDF system to other airports and border posts nationwide.
