Peter Obi’s Enugu Ally, Others Dump Labour Party for PDP

The new entrants were received into the PDP fold on Tuesday by the party’s Enugu State Chairman, Martin Chukwunwike. According to Mamah and Odoh, their decision to switch allegiance was largely influenced by the performance and leadership style of Governor Peter Mbah, whom they praised for redefining governance in the state.
Mamah stated that more former LP members, including those who worked with him during the last election cycle, would be joining the PDP in the coming days. “Governor Mbah has shown that governance can be progressive and impactful. His work has won our admiration and loyalty,” he said.
In his remarks, Chukwunwike expressed satisfaction with the ongoing realignment, describing it as a strategic success inspired by Governor Mbah’s inclusive and effective leadership. He added that at least four Labour Party lawmakers at the National Assembly were also preparing to cross over to the PDP.
Governor Mbah’s spokesperson, Dan Nwomeh, confirmed the development, noting that the defectors were attracted by the governor’s transparency and achievements. “No one sees the quality of work happening in Enugu and still wishes to remain in the opposition,” he said.
The wave of defections signals a significant political shift in Enugu, positioning the PDP for greater consolidation ahead of future elections.

The Bangbola Oyewo family of the Ese-Ola Royal House remembered him as a beloved family man, traditional leader, and an inspiration to generations of theatre practitioners.
