Opposition Lawmakers Demand Wike’s Expulsion, Applaud Anyanwu’s Removal

A coalition of opposition lawmakers has expressed approval of the recent decision by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remove Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his position as National Secretary and appoint Hon. Setonji Koshoedo as the acting replacement. The lawmakers, led by House of Representatives member Hon. In a statement released on Tuesday, Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato Federal Constituency and is a key figure in the PDP from Imo State, also called for the expulsion of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Anyanwu from the party. He described the NWC’s decision to appoint Koshoedo, the former Deputy National Secretary, as the necessary first step to set the PDP on a path to recovery.

Ugochinyere urged the NWC to adopt the recommendations of the disciplinary committee, led by Chief Tom Ikimi, which suggested sanctions against party members accused of undermining the PDP. He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.
