The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denounced the scheduled trial of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, labelling it as a blatant assault on the Nigerian Constitution, the rule of law, and principles of natural justice.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kanu’s terrorism trial is set to resume on Tuesday before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Monday by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB condemned the upcoming proceedings as unlawful and called for urgent intervention by the international community, including the United Nations, African Union, European Union, and various human rights bodies.

Powerful described the trial as a “sham” and a “judicial travesty,” warning that it represents not only a violation of local and international legal standards but also an act of judicial terrorism.

Part of the statement read: “The resumption of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s trial is a gross violation of Nigeria’s Constitution and a brazen breach of international law. It is a mockery of justice and an affront to civilised norms.”

IPOB appealed to global advocates for justice and human rights to resist the ongoing process and demand Kanu’s immediate and unconditional release.

Addressing the judges, IPOB urged them to consider the legacy they would leave behind, warning against allowing the judiciary to be used as an instrument of oppression.

“The rule of law is not negotiable; it is the foundation of a civilised society. Continuing this trial is tantamount to waging war against justice itself,” IPOB emphasized.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and lawful measures to achieve the freedom of its leader and the broader aspiration for self-determination, vowing that intimidation would not deter their pursuit of justice and liberty.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
