Anambra Governor Launches Torch of Unity for 2025 National Sports Festival
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State officially inaugurated the Torch of Unity Movement for the 22nd National Sports Festival, which will be held in Ogun State from May 16 to 30, 2025. The ceremony took place on Saturday in Awka, Anambra State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Represented by the State Chief Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff, Chinedu Nwoye, Governor Soludo lauded the National Sports Commission for promoting national peace and unity through sports. He reiterated Anambra State’s commitment to actively participating in the upcoming festival.
In his address, Governor Soludo emphasized the powerful role sports plays in uniting the nation, engaging youth, and driving economic growth. He called on both the public and private sectors to contribute to Nigeria’s sports development, especially in areas such as infrastructure, talent identification, athlete development, and event sponsorship.
He further remarked, “The games are more than just a test of athletic ability; they symbolize the unity, strength, and resilience that define us as a nation. Our collective participation in this event signifies a firm commitment to national progress through sports.”
Soludo also highlighted the importance of the festival as a platform for states and the Federal Capital Territory to showcase their athletic talents in a spirit of healthy competition, sportsmanship, and mutual respect, ultimately strengthening national unity.
Patrick Onyedum, the Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, underlined the necessity of enhanced collaboration to realize the country’s sporting potential. He noted that the Torch of Unity serves as a symbol of peace, solidarity, and strength.
The Torch will travel through all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to promote the upcoming festival. The event was attended by top officials, including the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, and the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Christopher Molokwu.
