The Federal Government, through the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), has voiced its concern over the low patronage of Nigerian-made products by citizens.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, Ondo State, NASENI’s Deputy Director of Engineering, Joseph Alasoluyi, attributed the trend to factors such as affordability and negative public perception of local goods.

To address the situation, NASENI has trained more than 50 individuals in artisanal production techniques as part of its ongoing efforts to promote locally manufactured products.

Alasoluyi emphasized that NASENI, which operates under the chairmanship of President Bola Tinubu, was established to drive scientific, technological, and engineering advancement nationwide. With 12 operational institutes across the country, the agency focuses on fostering indigenous innovation.

He highlighted NASENI’s core strategy, summarized in its “3 Cs” – Creation, Collaboration, and Commercialisation – through which the agency seeks to produce homegrown solutions, partner with relevant stakeholders, and bring innovations to market.

NASENI’s achievements so far include the development of solar-powered irrigation systems, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle conversion centers, high-capacity block-making machines, locally assembled 10-inch tablets and laptops, and electric tricycles (Keke Napep) that are ready for public distribution.

Meanwhile, Professor Samuel Oluyamo, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, criticized the federal government for inadequate investment in research and development. He stated that a lack of funding and weak links between academia and industry result in numerous abandoned research projects.

Oluyamo called for a stronger commitment to commercializing university-based innovations, warning that without significant scaling, Nigeria’s technological progress will remain stalled.

ADC On Edge As Supreme Court Judgment Delay Sparks Fresh Concerns, Says Magaji Mato.

Published

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Magaji Mato, has cautioned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could run into serious difficulties if the Supreme Court fails to deliver judgment on a pending appeal within 48 hours.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Mato said the call for an accelerated ruling is understandable, especially given the political timelines and deadlines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he stressed that the case carries major implications for Nigeria’s democratic process.

While acknowledging that the Constitution allows the Supreme Court up to three months to deliver judgment, he argued that the urgency surrounding the matter requires a much quicker decision.

According to him, any delay could render the judgment ineffective and may heighten political tension or even disrupt the electoral timetable.

Mato noted that the ADC’s concern over timing is not misplaced, especially in light of INEC’s election schedule and statutory deadlines.

He also said it is expected that the Supreme Court Justices are aware of the sensitivity of the matter and its broader impact on national stability.

“In a situation like this, where timelines and election preparations are involved, expeditious judgment is not out of place,” he said.

He warned that allowing a delayed ruling could have far-reaching consequences for the electoral process and the rights of political actors to fully participate.

Mato added that while judges are human, they are also expected to act with responsibility in matters that affect the nation’s democratic stability.

He expressed optimism that the court would act swiftly, suggesting that any delay beyond a very short window could create complications with INEC’s timetable for political parties.

The update was shared on April 29, 2026, via his official page after a Basic Education Bootcamp held in Jos, Plateau State.

According to the minister, the forum focused on expanding access to foundational education and closing persistent gaps that have left millions of children outside the school system.

He explained that ongoing reforms under the current administration are targeting critical areas such as teacher quality, girl-child education, science and technical learning, as well as vocational and skills development.

The reforms, driven through the National Education Sector Reform Initiative, also incorporate data-driven planning and digital tools to improve efficiency and service delivery in the education sector.

Alausa added that alternative learning approaches, including digital platforms and open schooling systems, are being expanded to reach children who cannot access traditional classrooms.

He further noted that collaboration with development partners and stakeholders has played a key role in recent progress, especially in bringing out-of-school children back into learning environments.

The minister also revealed plans to relaunch the National School Feeding Programme, describing it as a key intervention to boost school enrolment and retention. The programme is expected to restart in six pilot states.

While commending the Plateau State Government for its support, he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving both access and quality in basic education nationwide.
