Osadolor Accuses APC of Using EFCC, ICPC to Intimidate Opposition Politicians

Published

Timothy Osadolor, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly criticized the recent wave of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the trend as a calculated move fueled by intimidation and political coercion.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement during an interview with Punch, Osadolor pointed to the defections of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other notable PDP figures as evidence of a troubling political pattern driven by fear and pressure from state institutions.

He accused the APC government of manipulating key federal agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) to harass and suppress dissenting political voices.

“For some of us, this is nothing new. We’ve consistently raised alarm about how state machinery is being used to silence the opposition. The minute anyone criticizes the government, agencies like EFCC or ICPC suddenly come knocking,” Osadolor remarked.

According to him, the fear of public shame, trauma, and the burden of legal battles drive many politicians to switch allegiance. “In Nigeria, when EFCC invites you, the assumption is you’re guilty before proven innocent. Many can’t endure the emotional toll or social stigma, especially in front of their children or communities,” he said.

Osadolor further emphasized that such defections are often less about ideology and more about seeking political refuge from potential prosecution. “The APC is offering nothing tangible. They’re merely capitalizing on fear to build their numbers. It’s coercion disguised as political strategy,” he concluded.

He called on Nigerians and opposition forces to remain resilient, urging democratic institutions and civil society to resist the normalization of such alleged undemocratic practices.

Wike said the party should stop blaming him for its internal issues, insisting that the ADC is already heading towards political failure on its own.

The ADC had alleged that FCT authorities denied it access to venues for its convention and attempted to stop the use of the Rainbow Event Centre before the event eventually held there.

Reacting, Wike said investigations have already been launched into the matter and directed his Chief of Staff to identify any staff member involved in the alleged interference.

He stated: “We will not allow people to just wake up and say the FCT Minister did this or that. I have told my Chief of Staff to find out from the company which staff member interfered. We will get to the bottom of this.”

Meanwhile, Wike also commented on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s political ambitions, saying he would have to wait until 2031 to contest for the presidency.

He said there is “no space” for Atiku in 2027, adding that he could try again in 2031 when he would be 82 years old.

Wike made the remarks during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Kuje Area Council on Thursday, while also criticising Atiku’s repeated attacks on the current administration and insisting that President Bola Tinubu has performed better than previous leadership.
