The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed a special investigative team to probe serious accusations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that Senate President Akpabio, alongside former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, conspired to assassinate her following a failed attempt to trigger her recall from the Senate.

In response, Akpabio filed a formal petition dated April 3 with the IGP, also copying Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi. In the petition, he described the senator’s statements as “defamatory” and urged legal intervention to safeguard peace and his personal safety.

Confirming the situation, Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed to The Nation that the police had received Akpabio’s petition and the IGP had already assigned a team to investigate the matter.

The senator’s bombshell allegations were made during a homecoming event on April 1. She told her supporters that Akpabio initially asked Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo to initiate her recall, which Ododo reportedly declined, stating the move would be impossible due to her popularity with the people. Dissatisfied, Akpabio allegedly turned to Yahaya Bello, discussing both the recall process and, according to the senator, a plan to eliminate her.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed:

“On March 13 at around 10:00 PM, Akpabio instructed Yahaya Bello to ensure my assassination did not take place in Abuja but within Kogi, to create the impression that it was carried out by locals.”

She said she had already lodged a written complaint with the police prior to going public, stressing the gravity of the threats against her.

The situation has heightened tensions in political circles, prompting growing calls for transparency, accountability, and urgent protection for all parties involved as investigations continue.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.
