“They Made Me Clean Faeces Daily” – Teenager Recounts Ordeal After Viral Photo with Peter Obi

Alabi Quadri, the 17-year-old who became widely known during Nigeria’s 2023 elections for appearing in a viral photograph with the campaign convoy of Peter Obi, has shared distressing details of his time in detention.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Channels Television, Quadri opened up about the events that led to his arrest and the trauma he endured while imprisoned at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison.

According to Quadri, he was unaware of any local unrest on the day he was apprehended. After returning from work as a motor boy, he was unexpectedly attacked by area boys in his neighborhood, who then handed him over to the police. He believes his viral image with Peter Obi’s campaign may have made him a marked target, stating that his family even received threats.

“One person told my mother that the money I had allegedly been given would either be divided or I’d be kidnapped and never seen again,” he said, emphasizing the danger his family faced.

Following his arrest, Quadri was first held at a police station, where he was locked in a cell with older men he didn’t know. The situation worsened when he was transferred to Kirikiri prison. There, he claims he was subjected to forced labor due to his inability to pay prison “marshals.”

“In Kirikiri, I had to clean human faeces daily, from morning until evening, simply because I couldn’t pay the inmates in charge,” he revealed.

The Lagos State Police Command had alleged that Quadri was involved in public disturbance and robbery. However, his family and supporters have consistently argued that his detention was unjust and politically motivated, with many accusing the police of using him as a scapegoat.

After spending several months in detention, Alabi Quadri was released on April 17, 2025.
