David Mark Urges Tinubu to Adopt U.S., Israeli Border Tactics to Curb Insecurity
Former Senate President, David Mark, has called on the Nigerian government to adopt more proactive and modern strategies in combating the country’s worsening insecurity, especially in the North Central region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a goodwill Easter message delivered by his media adviser, Paul Mumeh, in Kano on Sunday, Mark strongly urged the administration of President Bola Tinubu to learn from the border protection models of countries like the United States, Israel, and India by implementing physical fencing around Nigeria’s borders.
Mark expressed deep concern over the continuous loss of lives and property in states like Plateau and Benue due to violent crimes, including attacks by armed herders and kidnappers. He lamented the destruction of communities and the displacement of residents from their ancestral homes, describing the situation as intolerable.
According to him, any groups involved in such deadly and destructive acts should be officially recognized and treated as terrorists.
“We can no longer ignore the facts. If these groups aren’t terrorists, why are they committing mass killings, burning villages, and forcing citizens to flee?” he queried.
He further advocated for a total change in strategy, stating, “It’s time we consider fencing our borders, just as countries like the U.S., Israel, and India have done. This would help tackle terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes at their roots.”
Mark also sympathized with the affected communities in Plateau and Benue, especially in light of the recent brutal attacks. Over 50 people were killed in Zilkke village, Bassa LGA of Plateau State, with more than 40 homes burned. Likewise, over 56 residents lost their lives in attacks in Logo and Ukum LGAs of Benue State, believed to have been carried out by suspected herders on Good Friday.
In closing, Mark emphasized that urgent, decisive action must be taken to protect Nigerians and ensure national security, urging the Tinubu-led administration not to treat the crisis with levity.
