Boko Haram Exploits TikTok, Deploys Drones in Northeast Nigeria – Analyst

A top security analyst, Bulama Bukarti, has warned that Boko Haram is expanding its operations into digital spaces, actively spreading its extremist ideology via popular social media platforms like TikTok.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Bukarti, a senior fellow at the Extremism Policy Unit of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, disclosed this during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television program, on Sunday.

His remarks follow closely on the heels of a recent statement by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, who lamented that the state had lost over 100 soldiers and 280 civilians to Boko Haram attacks in just six months.

Bukarti noted that the terrorist group has taken advantage of the accessibility of TikTok to broadcast their propaganda. “They now run live sessions on TikTok, speaking in Hausa to justify their violence, field questions, and interact with online users,” he explained.

He further revealed that Boko Haram has ramped up its technological capabilities, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. “They’re now using drones to spy on military camps across the Northeast,” he added.

“In the past three months, they’ve launched more than seven attacks on Nigerian military super camps in locations such as Sabon Gari. During these raids, they’ve overwhelmed forces, killed and captured personnel, and looted supplies before fleeing into the forests,” Bukarti recounted.

The disturbing revelations underscore the evolving threat posed by the insurgent group and the urgent need for improved digital counter-terrorism strategies.
