Military Reshuffles Top Brass Amid Rising Violence in Plateau and Borno
Amid escalating attacks in Plateau, Borno, and other volatile regions, the Nigerian military has initiated a sweeping reorganisation of its leadership to strengthen tactical operations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Nigerian Army began the process earlier this week, with plans underway to extend the changes to the Air Force and Navy in the coming days.
As part of this shake-up, senior officers have been redeployed to bolster ongoing counter-insurgency and internal security missions. Among those affected are the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in Borno State and the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.
Major General A.E. Abubakar has been appointed as the new OPHK Theatre Commander, while Major General A.K. Ibrahim will assume leadership at the NDA. According to military sources, the redeployed commanders are expected to resume their new roles following the Easter holidays.
This reorganisation follows a series of concerning security developments. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno recently expressed alarm over the resurgence of violent attacks, warning that areas such as Wulgo, Sabongari, and Wajirko had seen military positions overrun by insurgents.
Zulum stated, “It seems we are losing ground. Peace had gradually returned over the last three years, but recent attacks indicate a concerning reversal.”
Other key appointments include Major General B.I. Alaya as Director-General of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), and Major General M.K. Gara and K.O. Ukandu in various operational capacities, including Operation Whirl Stroke.
In tandem with the leadership reshuffle, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has ramped up its aerial offensives against terrorist hideouts in Borno State. Airstrikes were launched in the Sambisa Forest and Southern Tumbuns, targeting insurgent strongholds.
NAF spokesman Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame confirmed two successful precision strikes. The first occurred at 5:30 a.m. in Kollaram, a known base of terrorist activity, resulting in the destruction of several structures and the neutralization of fighters, including high-value targets.
A second strike followed at 3:55 p.m. in Arra, Sambisa, following reconnaissance that revealed large concentrations of insurgents. Guided munitions were deployed, effectively destroying targets and crippling operational capacity.
“These continuous operations are part of a broader campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, eliminating safe havens, and restoring national security,” Ejodame stated. “The Nigerian Air Force remains fully committed to defending every inch of Nigerian territory.”

Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during the APM South-West town hall meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
He expressed confidence that the party would secure a sweeping victory in the 2027 polls, describing its agenda as a plan to reset the country.
Makinde made the prediction after Mohammed was introduced at the gathering and described as an incoming senator.
Speaking at the event, the APM presidential candidate said, “Well, APM is going to win this election overwhelmingly because this is the reset agenda being put before Nigerians, so I dare to say that my national leader is the incoming Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He urged Nigerians to listen to the party’s message and support its proposed agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde also discussed the qualities he believes Nigerians should consider when choosing their next president, arguing that physical energy and the ability to tackle national challenges should take precedence over age.
According to him, the next president must possess the stamina to work long hours and respond effectively to the country’s pressing problems.
He stated, “While I will not make age an issue in this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late to deal with the challenges we face as a country.”
Makinde further challenged presidential candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, urging voters to consider their capacity to handle the demands of the presidency.
“So please, when they bring their presidential candidates, let the candidates be able to jump, and if they can do that, vote for them,” he added.
