Falana Demands Ibas’s Sack for Defying Tinubu’s Orders in Rivers State
Renowned human rights advocate and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has called on the Federal Government to dismiss the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, for allegedly flouting constitutional norms and disregarding directives from President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued on Thursday, Falana referenced an official Federal Government Gazette that outlined the framework for the administrator’s role. According to the document, the Sole Administrator is expected to operate solely based on regulations personally issued by the President. However, Falana highlighted that no such regulations have been released by Tinubu to date.
Despite this, Ibas has reportedly made unauthorized appointments and dismissed officials previously appointed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, actions Falana condemned as both illegal and insubordinate.
“The Sole Administrator has acted in outright defiance of the President’s authority,” Falana stated. “By ignoring the established directive, he has deepened the unconstitutional nature of his appointment and should be relieved of his duties without delay.”
This development comes amid the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, which continues to stir debate over the legitimacy of state appointments and the federal-state power dynamics. Falana’s position adds to the growing scrutiny over the actions of the Sole Administrator and further pressures the Federal Government to intervene.
The legal and political implications of the situation remain fluid, as civil society groups and political observers await a resolution to the escalating tension in the oil-rich state.
