Adesina Hails Buhari’s Unwavering Support in AfDB Presidency Triumph
President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has extended his heartfelt appreciation to former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for his steadfast support during both his election and re-election campaigns for the AfDB presidency.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Adesina paid a courtesy visit to Buhari at his Kaduna residence on Thursday, where he acknowledged the former president’s pivotal role in his political journey within the continental financial institution. While noting that his initial nomination came from former President Goodluck Jonathan, Adesina emphasized that it was Buhari’s consistent and principled backing that greatly influenced his successful bid.
“He stood firmly by me through challenging times and ensured my re-election. I’m truly grateful,” Adesina stated.
He also recalled the political transition period during his campaign, describing himself as a “stranded candidate” following Jonathan’s exit from office. It was during this uncertain phase that he approached President Buhari, who, despite Adesina’s political ties to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), offered full support based on merit.
Buhari recounted his first meeting with Adesina and lauded his integrity and competence, stating, “I don’t judge by party. I see people as Nigerians, and I support those deserving of help.”
During the visit, Adesina also briefed Buhari on one of the bank’s flagship projects—the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) initiative—recently launched in Kaduna. He highlighted its potential for economic transformation in the region. In response, Buhari commended Adesina for the initiative’s progress and its significance to regional development.
As Adesina’s term as AfDB president nears its conclusion in September 2025, he continues to receive commendations for his leadership and impact on Africa’s economic development through strategic programmes and investments across the continent.

Makinde made the prediction after Mohammed was introduced at the gathering and described as an incoming senator.
Speaking at the event, the APM presidential candidate said, “Well, APM is going to win this election overwhelmingly because this is the reset agenda being put before Nigerians, so I dare to say that my national leader is the incoming Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He urged Nigerians to listen to the party’s message and support its proposed agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde also discussed the qualities he believes Nigerians should consider when choosing their next president, arguing that physical energy and the ability to tackle national challenges should take precedence over age.
According to him, the next president must possess the stamina to work long hours and respond effectively to the country’s pressing problems.
He stated, “While I will not make age an issue in this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late to deal with the challenges we face as a country.”
Makinde further challenged presidential candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, urging voters to consider their capacity to handle the demands of the presidency.
“So please, when they bring their presidential candidates, let the candidates be able to jump, and if they can do that, vote for them,” he added.
