The newly elected leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s South-West zone has pledged to increase the number of PDP governors in the region before the end of their tenure.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

During his acceptance speech at the congress held at Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall in Ibadan, the re-elected zonal chairman, Kamorudeen Ajisafe, expressed optimism about reclaiming more states from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Currently, the PDP governs only Oyo and Osun states in the region.

Ajisafe committed to upholding the aspirations of party stakeholders and working diligently to expand PDP’s influence. “On behalf of my fellow executives, I promise to serve with integrity and deliver results that align with the expectations of our party leaders,” he stated.

The zonal congress, which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), also returned Muyiwa Obagunwa as zonal secretary and appointed Bose Adedibu—widow of the late political heavyweight Lamidi Adedibu—as the new woman leader.

Other officials elected include Adeyemo Adetunji (treasurer), Yaya Adeleke (financial secretary), Atofarati Olusanya (publicity secretary), and Bamidele Seyi Abiola (youth leader).

Prominent PDP figures in attendance included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and former Board of Trustees member Chief Bode George. Governor Makinde hailed the peaceful congress and the growing unity within the party.

“Four years ago, there were serious internal rifts, but today we stand as a united family. This congress demonstrates how democracy should work in Nigeria,” Makinde remarked. He added that the harmony exhibited during the congress would serve as a model for the PDP’s forthcoming national convention.

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and chairman of the electoral committee, Udom Emmanuel, commended the conduct of delegates and described the congress as well-organized and forward-looking.

Meanwhile, Chief Bode George lauded the event and confirmed it would mark his final public engagement, though he assured that he remains committed to the PDP’s ideals.

The congress concluded with renewed hope and a unified message from party leaders: that the South-West PDP is ready to reclaim lost ground and chart a stronger course ahead of future elections.
