Kano APC Shuts Down Kwankwaso’s Alleged Return, Labels Him a Political Risk
The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed growing speculation that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is planning to rejoin the APC.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking with The Punch, Ahmed S. Aruwa, the spokesperson of the Kano APC, described Kwankwaso as a “political liability” with a history of causing instability within political parties. According to Aruwa, Kwankwaso has a consistent pattern of disrupting party structures, having previously left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in disarray and currently contributing to internal chaos within the NNPP.
The backlash follows recent remarks made by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who described the NNPP as politically dead and hinted at the possibility of Kwankwaso being accepted back into the APC. Ganduje stated, “The coffin has already been constructed. What remains now is to dig the grave. Kwankwaso wants to come back, and we will welcome him.”
However, Aruwa disagreed sharply with Ganduje’s tone, asserting that the APC stands to lose more than it gains if Kwankwaso is welcomed back. He accused Kwankwaso of plotting a strategic return solely to position himself for a 2031 presidential bid after President Tinubu’s second term.
“We understand his game plan—he wants to infiltrate the party and seize control of the structure ahead of the next election cycle. Between 2019 and 2023, we worked hard to build this party while he was on the outside mocking us. We will not allow him to come in through the back door and dismantle our progress,” Aruwa declared.
He concluded that any discussion about Kwankwaso’s return must begin with reconciliation between him and Ganduje, emphasizing that the APC would not compromise its internal stability for political convenience.
“If he’s genuinely interested in returning, the first step is to make peace with Ganduje,” Aruwa asserted.
