Senator Binos Pushes for First Major Tertiary Institution in Southern Adamawa
Senator Binos Yaroe has renewed calls for equitable distribution of educational infrastructure in Adamawa State, emphasizing the urgent need for a major tertiary institution in the southern senatorial zone—the only zone in the state currently without one.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to journalists in Yola South Local Government Area, the senator highlighted the progress of a bill he sponsored to establish a University of Education in Numan. According to him, the bill—which was initially passed by the National Assembly but declined by President Bola Tinubu due to specific concerns—is being revised to address the identified issues.
Senator Binos noted that the major contention centered around land allocation for the proposed institution. “The Senate has now corrected the problematic provisions,” he stated, expressing confidence that the House of Representatives will also pass the amended version once the National Assembly resumes, paving the way for the President’s assent.
He recalled that the initiative to establish the university began during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari but didn’t gain approval at the time. Now in his second term, Binos has reintroduced the bill with stronger backing and determination.
A comparative analysis of educational resources in the state reveals a glaring imbalance. While central Adamawa boasts a federal university, federal college of education, state polytechnic, Nigerian Law School zonal campus, and a private university, and the northern zone hosts a state university, federal university of agriculture, federal polytechnic, and a state college of education, the southern zone has only a state polytechnic campus in Numan and a college of agriculture in Ganye—despite being the largest zone with nine local government areas.
Addressing growing speculation about his potential candidacy for governor in 2027, Senator Binos clarified that he intends to remain in the Senate if his constituents continue to support him. “Being a ranking senator comes with substantial benefits for my constituents,” he said, stressing his preference to build legislative experience rather than pursue executive office.
The senator’s advocacy is being widely viewed as a critical step toward correcting long-standing educational neglect in southern Adamawa.
