Edo PDP Crisis Worsens as Dan Orbih Faction Unveils Parallel Secretariat

Chief Orbih, who serves as the PDP’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South and also chairs the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, explained that the move was necessary following the party’s eviction from its former secretariat by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2025.
He stated that the PDP had effectively been without a headquarters in Edo State since the eviction, which left the party “homeless.” Orbih emphasized that the newly commissioned facility fulfills a personal commitment he made to party members to provide a functional and respectable administrative base.
“A few weeks ago, I pledged to donate a secretariat to the party. Today, I am proud to say that promise has been fulfilled. We can no longer allow PDP to be described as a homeless party,” Orbih remarked during the commissioning event.
He used the opportunity to strongly criticize the state’s PDP Caretaker Committee, declaring it unconstitutional and unauthorized to represent the party. Orbih alleged that the committee members had aligned themselves with the former governor to undermine the PDP’s strength in the state.
Reflecting on the party’s diminished status, he lamented the loss of influence once held by the Edo PDP, which previously boasted two senators and a majority in the House of Representatives. Now, with only one federal lawmaker and the governorship lost to the APC, Orbih called for a full-scale rebuilding and repositioning of the party.
“As National Vice Chairman (South-South), I make it clear that those parading themselves as members of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee no longer have the mandate to speak for the party. Going forward, only recognized leaders managing the party’s affairs in the state will be acknowledged,” he asserted.
Orbih concluded with a rallying call for party members to focus on reconstruction efforts to restore the PDP’s former glory in Edo State.
