APC to PDP: Fielding Makinde in 2027 Is a Fast-Track to Political Oblivion
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has strongly criticized the possibility of Governor Seyi Makinde emerging as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections, warning that such a move could spell the political downfall of the opposition party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This reaction followed Governor Makinde’s recent appearance on Channels Television, where he expressed confidence in his leadership abilities and hinted at interest in the nation’s highest office. He highlighted his achievements in Oyo State, stating, “I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land, and I have what it takes.”
However, APC’s Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Olawale Shadare, in an interview with Punch, dismissed the governor’s aspirations and labeled the idea of his candidacy as a fatal mistake for the PDP.
Shadare said, “We encourage him (Makinde) to go all out and secure the presidential ticket of the PDP for the next general election. But if the PDP fields him, it’s preparing for its final burial.”
He further ridiculed the PDP’s current state, remarking that the party — once Nigeria’s ruling party for 16 years — had become “a tool of comedy” in the hands of individuals like Makinde. Despite the harsh criticism, Shadare noted that the APC does not wish for PDP’s demise, but if it continues down this path, the consequences would be self-inflicted.
The remarks have further deepened political tensions as Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 general elections.
