2027: Atiku Assembles Multi-Party Coalition, Promises ‘New Pathway’
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reiterated his commitment to leading a broad-based opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of National Opinion Leaders on Tuesday, Atiku emphasized that the coalition would adopt any political platform that guarantees good governance and national development.
A video of the meeting, which Atiku shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, showed him assuring the group that the coalition movement had already gained momentum, describing it as a “train that has left the station” with multiple stops to welcome Nigerians from all walks of life.
This declaration came just two days after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, in a communique following their meeting in Ibadan, distanced themselves from any proposed coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku first announced the coalition plan in March, appearing alongside key political figures including Dr. Yunusa Tanko, who represented Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The former vice president also recently visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna with other members of the emerging coalition, a move that raised anticipation about PDP’s official position. However, following their Ibadan meeting—attended by Acting PDP National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum and other party stalwarts—the governors disassociated themselves from any coalition discussions. They did, however, express openness to welcoming individuals or parties into the PDP fold.
Addressing the young delegation, Atiku cautioned them against being swayed by short-term incentives.
“Don’t be distracted by those offering you pennies or naira while mortgaging your future and that of your children,” he warned.
He described the alliance as a “Sabuwar Tafiya” (a new journey in Hausa), saying it represents a new path toward a better Nigeria. “We’re meeting regularly, and soon, by God’s grace, we will make formal announcements. We urge you to be part of this movement,” Atiku added.
He stressed that the coalition’s ultimate goal is to ensure the delivery of effective governance and urged the youth to begin strategic planning and grassroots mobilization.
“Start organizing, uniting, and bringing more Nigerians onboard this new direction,” he concluded.
