The meeting, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Jos, focused on the alarming resurgence of violence in Bassa and Bokkos LGAs. The security council discussed urgent measures to restore peace and prevent further loss of life in the state.

Governor Mutfwang disclosed that over 100 armed militiamen had stormed the affected communities early on Monday, killing innocent residents. “We are on top of the situation and will do whatever it takes to prevent a recurrence,” the governor assured the people of Plateau.

The death toll from the attacks reached 51, with numerous homes destroyed. Governor Mutfwang promised to provide further details in a broadcast scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

Wakili Tongwe, a community leader from Kwall, reported that the attackers arrived in the early hours of Monday and began shooting indiscriminately at residents trying to escape the gunfire. He added that while a group of vigilantes, including some security personnel, attempted to repel the attackers, the damage had already been done. Thirty-six people were confirmed dead, with four others succumbing to their injuries later. Several others sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving medical treatment.

The situation continues to draw widespread concern, with calls for stronger security measures and a commitment to ending the cycle of violence in Plateau State.
