No Vacancy in My Office – PDP’s Anyanwu Defies Governors’ Replacement Plan
Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has vehemently opposed moves by the PDP Governors’ Forum to replace him with his deputy in an acting capacity, calling the action unconstitutional and contrary to both party regulations and court judgments.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The controversy emerged after PDP governors met in Ibadan, Oyo State, where they proposed that the Deputy National Secretary temporarily assume the role until a permanent successor from the South East is selected. This appears to be a strategy to manage the ongoing dispute between Senator Anyanwu and Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye regarding the position’s control.
In a firm response, Anyanwu maintained that he remains the legitimately elected National Secretary, elected for a four-year term during the party’s 2021 convention. He stressed that any attempts to sideline him lack legal standing and directly contravene both the PDP constitution and existing court orders.
“This is not the first time certain individuals have tried to bypass due process. I am still the National Secretary and will resume duties at Wadata Plaza after Easter. There is no vacancy,” Anyanwu declared.
He criticized the governors’ move as a deliberate affront to party unity and a disregard for legal precedent. Anyanwu referenced a January ruling from the Federal High Court that explicitly prohibited any party official from taking over or assigning the responsibilities of the National Secretary.
Further reinforcing his stance, he cited a Supreme Court judgment from March 2025 which nullified prior attempts to undermine his position, emphasizing that neither regional caucuses nor governors have the power to override decisions made at a valid national convention.
Anyanwu also disclosed that the PDP’s National Legal Adviser had informed the governors that their position lacked legal merit and had already been addressed by the apex court.
He warned that any document lacking his and the National Chairman’s signatures would be deemed invalid by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), potentially affecting the party’s candidates.
Highlighting the legal consequences of unauthorized actions, he cautioned: “Any document signed by an unauthorized person could invalidate our party’s candidate.”
Anyanwu concluded by affirming his commitment to his role and warned against factional moves that could further destabilize the party.
