The politicians making the move include Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki of Dala Federal Constituency, and Hon. Kabir Alhassan Rurum of Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency.
Ahead of their formal defection, the trio visited the APC National Chairman and former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in Abuja on Tuesday, April 15. The meeting, as reported by Nivo News, is seen as a precursor to their official declaration.
This defection signals a significant political shift in Kano, potentially weakening the NNPP’s influence while bolstering the APC’s base in the state.
Meanwhile, in another political twist, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly condemned the PDP Governors’ Forum’s move to recommend his replacement. He described the action as unconstitutional and contrary to both legal rulings and the party’s constitution.
Anyanwu referenced a Supreme Court verdict from March and a Federal High Court order issued in January, both of which, according to him, uphold his position and restrict others from assuming his role. He warned that those attempting to unseat him are jeopardizing the party’s credibility and disregarding established legal directives.
