Ex-Kebbi Governorship Aspirant Accuses Governor Idris of Political Targeting Amid Demolition Plans
Salihu Nataro, a former governorship aspirant in Kebbi State, has accused Governor Nasir Idris of orchestrating a politically motivated demolition of his ancestral property in Jega Local Government Area.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Nataro described the government’s action as a retaliatory move stemming from his open criticism of the Idris administration. He expressed concern that his advocacy for a shift from high-profile projects to people-centered development might have triggered the response.
“This is clearly a political vendetta,” Nataro asserted. “Prior to this, some individuals had informed the governor that I might contest again. I merely advised the governor to reconsider his development priorities for the benefit of the people.”
The house in question, according to Nataro, holds significant historical value, having been passed down from his late father, a respected local philanthropist. He emphasized that the property was originally built by the first traditional ruler of Jega, Sarkin Marina, and therefore represents more than just a private residence.
Nataro also urged Governor Idris to address circulating rumors regarding his alleged conflict with the state’s Accountant General, especially on the management of Value Added Tax (VAT) allocations, which he believes may be fueling political unrest in the state.
While denying any intention to defect to the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), Nataro insisted that the demolition threat is a deliberate attempt to silence and intimidate him.
In response, the Kebbi State Government refuted the allegations. In a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the government clarified that the demolition is part of a broader infrastructure development initiative, particularly a road expansion project.
The statement detailed that the project involves professional standards, including the construction of drainage systems, embankments, stone-pitching, and access culverts.
“Governor Nasir Idris remains committed to the development of Kebbi State and does not engage in petty or vindictive politics,” the statement read.
The government also noted that all due processes are being followed, with the Ministry of Works engaging affected property owners as part of the compensation and planning procedures.
