Eedris Abdulkareem Responds: ‘Tell Your Papa’ is Not an Attack on Seyi Tinubu

Nigerian rapper and singer Eedris Abdulkareem has clarified that his latest song, “Tell Your Papa,” was not meant to target Seyi Tinubu. According to Abdulkareem, the song was a response to comments made by Seyi Tinubu, who had previously declared his father, President Bola Tinubu, as Nigeria’s best-ever leader.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Channels Television’s “Rubbin’ Minds,” Abdulkareem explained that his song was inspired by the president’s son’s statement made in Yola, Adamawa State, in March 2025. Abdulkareem emphasized that the track is not a personal attack on Seyi but rather a call for the president’s attention to critical national issues such as the economy and security. He further explained that Nigerian youths are demanding basic services such as electricity, security, job creation, and a conducive economic environment, rather than palliative measures.

The rapper added that had Seyi Tinubu not made such a statement, there would have been no reason for him to create the song. Abdulkareem noted that the release of “Tell Your Papa” was purely a response to the younger Tinubu’s comments.

In response to the song’s release, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) quickly labeled the track as inappropriate, subsequently banning it from airing on radio and television. This move has been met with widespread criticism, including from notable figures such as Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, who condemned the ban, calling it a form of censorship and a threat to free speech.

Reflecting on his earlier work, Abdulkareem lamented the continued relevance of his 24-year-old song “Nigeria Jagajaga,” suggesting that the country has failed to progress as expected over the years.
