Benue Tribunal Overturns Agatu LG Election, Declares Napoleon Otache Winner
The Benue State Local Government Elections Petition Tribunal, convened at the NBA House in Abuja, has annulled the election of Melvin Ejeh as the Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area. This ruling came after a petition was filed challenging the legitimacy of the local government election in Agatu, which is one of the 23 LGAs in Benue State.
In response to the judgment, Ejeh described the tribunal’s decision as a “total miscarriage of justice” and expressed his intention to challenge the ruling in court. He reiterated his commitment to continue his leadership role, pending the outcome of the appeal.
“My fellow citizens of Agatu, you are aware of the injustice done to me on a matter that involves the same facts and evidence across all 23 local government areas of Benue State,” Ejeh stated in a post-verdict message.
Despite the tribunal’s ruling, Ejeh maintained that he remains the legitimate chairman until the appeal is decided and urged Agatu residents to remain calm and united during this time.
“I have mobilized a team of legal experts, who have already filed an appeal. I assure you that the mandate you gave me will not be taken away, and we are confident of success when the case is heard at the appeal tribunal,” he added.
Nigeria’s Minister of Regional Development, Engr. “After 16 years of wearing the Nigeria jersey, representing my country and giving everything I had for this beautiful sport, I have made the very difficult decision to retire from international football… I gave this jersey my youth, my strength, my sweat, my tears, and my heart. And if I had to do it all over again, I would choose Nigeria every single time.”
She concluded her farewell message with deep appreciation, stating that she steps away from international duty carrying 86 total appearances, zero regrets, and boundless gratitude for her teammates, fans, and the nation.
Joining the global wave of recognition, CAF honored her monumental impact on African women’s football via social media, writing:
“Five WAFCON titles. One immortal legacy. Thank you Ohale for every battle, every trophy and every memory.”
