Tompolo Breaks Silence, Declares Fubara Will Reclaim Rivers Governorship
Former militant leader and ex-commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Government Ekpemupolo — widely known as Tompolo — has declared that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will be reinstated despite the political crisis currently rocking Rivers State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking publicly for the first time in nearly a month, Tompolo made the declaration during his 54th birthday celebration held at the Aziza Temple in Gbaramatu Kingdom. The event also served as a platform for him to address critical issues affecting the Ijaw people.
In a video circulated online and reported by Nivo News, the revered Egbesu priest strongly defended Governor Fubara, insisting his suspension is only temporary. “I have ascended my father’s throne, and all that has been lost will be recovered. The Ijaw nation will never be defeated. If war becomes necessary, even the heavens will stand with us. I have never lost a battle,” Tompolo said, reinforcing his belief in eventual justice for Fubara.
Reacting to criticisms over his prior silence on the crisis, Tompolo dismissed accusations of betrayal. “Some have accused me of abandoning the Ijaw cause, but my entire life has been devoted to defending our people,” he asserted.
While acknowledging his personal relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Tompolo called for restraint among Ijaw people, urging them not to dwell on divisive remarks. “The Ijaw nation has matured beyond reacting to every provocation,” he stated.
Tompolo also emphasized the importance of internal unity, particularly within Bayelsa State. Despite occasional disagreements with Governor Douye Diri, he stressed the need for solidarity. “Anyone trying to destabilize Bayelsa will face resistance. We may differ, but we are united by our shared identity as Ijaws,” he declared.
Addressing the controversial delineation of electoral wards by INEC in Warri Federal Constituency, Tompolo emphasized peaceful coexistence between the Ijaw and Itsekiri people. “We are not enemies. Historically, Omadino in Gbaramatu predates all Itsekiri towns. When combined, their population doesn’t surpass Okerenkoko. The INEC data simply confirms the truth. The Olu of Warri has Gbaramatu roots,” he explained.
On national matters, Tompolo expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and encouraged the Ijaw community to back his administration. “President Tinubu is not a bad leader. He has good intentions for Nigeria and the Ijaw people,” he affirmed.
Through his remarks, Tompolo called for reconciliation, strength in unity, and a renewed commitment to justice, as the political tension in Rivers State continues to unfold.
