In an interview with Channels TV’s Politics Today, the Borno South senator emphasized that while Buhari’s popularity may have diminished after his eight years in office, his followership, especially in the Northern regions, remains formidable.
Describing Buhari’s loyal base as “occultic”, Ndume said, “Although Buhari has only one vote, his presence still commands significant attention, particularly among the masses in the North.” He highlighted that even after leaving office, people from all walks of life—including market traders—flock to see him, indicating his continued influence.
Ndume’s comment also extended to his own relationship with Tinubu, where he noted, “Tinubu should be concerned if Buhari is not on his side. Every vote counts, and Buhari has one.”
This statement comes shortly after a visit by key political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and others, to Buhari’s Kaduna residence, signaling ongoing political developments as the 2027 elections approach.
