According to Naija News, the destroyed drugs were seized in various operations across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States. The consignment included 123 kg of cocaine, 46.8 kg of heroin, 1.4 million kg of cannabis, 148,000 kg of codeine syrup, 3,244.26 kg of tramadol, 1,544 kg of skuchies, and 111 kg of methamphetamine, among other harmful substances.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), emphasized that the destruction exercise was part of the agency’s unwavering commitment to curbing drug trafficking in Nigeria. Represented by the Director of Assets and Financial Investigation, Ibrahim Abdul, Marwa noted that the public destruction was conducted in the spirit of transparency, accountability, and in line with court approvals following the successful prosecution of related cases.
“This action highlights the enormous threat these substances pose to public health until they are irreversibly eliminated,” Marwa said, adding that the Tinubu-led administration is steadfast in its resolve to eliminate the drug menace in the country.
He warned drug traffickers that Nigeria will remain hostile terrain for their operations, highlighting the NDLEA’s success in prosecuting over 10,500 offenders within the past four years.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Olusola Subair, commended the NDLEA’s efforts and advocated for increased investment in preventive measures such as public education, counseling, youth empowerment, and rehabilitation support.
The event not only showcased the agency’s operational success but also reinforced Nigeria’s broader commitment to combating the illegal drug trade through strategic enforcement and community collaboration.
