Amorim Dismisses Onana-Matic Feud as Misunderstanding Ahead of Europa Clash
Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, has addressed the recent tension between his goalkeeper Andre Onana and Olympique Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic, describing the incident as a simple “misunderstanding.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The confrontation comes ahead of a crucial UEFA Europa League quarter-final clash, a fixture that could represent United’s last opportunity to secure silverware this season.
The friction reportedly began when Matic, a former United player, criticized Onana, labeling him “one of the worst goalkeepers in the club’s history.” His comments were in reaction to Onana’s earlier remarks suggesting that Manchester United is “far superior” to Lyon.
In response, Onana fired back via (formerly Twitter), reminding Matic that he failed to win any major honours during his five-year spell at Old Trafford.
Addressing the media, Amorim called for perspective, highlighting that Onana’s full statement had been taken out of context. “If you listen to the complete quote, Onana first praises Lyon as a very strong team,” Amorim explained. “These things often get blown out of proportion because people only hear fragments.”
Amorim also spoke fondly of Matic, describing him as a “great guy,” and insisted that the upcoming match will remain focused on football, not off-pitch drama.
The first leg of the Europa League quarter-final is set to kick off at 8:00 p.m. tonight, Thursday, April 10.
