Governor Zulum, FG Disagree Over Resurgence of Boko Haram Attacks in Borno
The disagreement between Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, and the Federal Government over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in the state has escalated. Governor Zulum, in a recent meeting in Maiduguri, raised alarms about the increasing frequency of attacks and kidnappings by the insurgents, suggesting that the state was losing ground to the terrorists.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He cited the March 24 attacks on two military bases in the state—one in Wajirko, Damboa Local Government Area, and the other in Wulgo, Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area—where several soldiers were killed and military formations dislodged. Zulum noted that these attacks, alongside the killings of civilians and security personnel, represent a serious setback to the fragile peace in Borno.
The governor urged for more decisive action, calling for the deployment of technological warfare and better equipping of security agencies. He also emphasized the importance of international collaboration, given Borno’s proximity to Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.
In response, the Federal Government, represented by Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, defended its efforts, citing the synergy between security agencies and the progress made under the current administration. Idris reassured the public that the government was committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry, citing successes over the last 18 months.
The Federal Government emphasized the importance of collaboration between state and federal authorities in addressing insurgency, and reiterated its commitment to supporting the military and other security agencies in their efforts to tackle the insurgents.
