Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has shared touching details of his final political conversation with the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, revealing the senator’s intention to support his re-election bid before his untimely death.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Tuesday during the defection of several of Ubah’s former allies to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Soludo expressed admiration for Ubah’s political journey and acknowledged their long-standing personal relationship.

Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the Senate until his death in July 2024, was reportedly preparing to run for governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, according to Soludo, Ubah privately admitted that unseating the incumbent in the upcoming November 8 governorship election would be an uphill task.

Recalling their last interaction, Soludo said, “We met at an event in this hall. I joked about his gubernatorial ambition, and he laughed, acknowledging that it would be difficult to beat me. He told me he had discussed the matter with his party leadership and would reach out to Sir Emeka Offor to arrange a meeting where we could align politically.”

Soludo revealed that Offor later confirmed Ubah’s intention to support his candidacy, but the meeting never happened due to Ubah’s sudden passing.

Describing their political history, Soludo recounted how Ubah once contested under the Labour Party and later sought the APGA governorship ticket in 2019 but was controversially disqualified. “He would have won by a landslide,” Soludo said, offering a posthumous apology. “It was an injustice, just like what I experienced in 2013.”

The governor also pledged to immortalize the late senator. “We will find a way to honor him—if not by naming a street, then a significant monument.”

Welcoming the defectors, Soludo emphasized APGA’s inclusive spirit and commitment to Anambra’s progress, affirming that all members are valued regardless of when they joined.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.
