Eradiri Accuses Diri of Using Ijaw Ethnicity to Mask Political Disputes

In a strongly worded statement, Eradiri cautioned Governor Diri against portraying the Ijaw nation as being collectively opposed to Wike, describing such a stance as misleading and politically dangerous. He emphasized that Diri’s political struggles should remain personal and not be attributed to ethnic sentiments.

Eradiri, a former Labour Party governorship candidate in Bayelsa, disclosed that although he once sought Wike’s support during his campaign, his efforts were thwarted by individuals around the Minister. He argued that Wike’s backing played a decisive role in Diri’s victory, noting that without it, the outcome might have been different—especially given the cancellation of votes in strongholds of Timipre Sylva.

Highlighting what he called hypocrisy, Eradiri reminded critics that Diri once sought Wike’s favor and even received significant support from him. He questioned where the so-called defenders of Ijaw pride were when Wike invested ₦5 billion in renovating the previously neglected Law School in Yenagoa.

Eradiri urged those criticizing Wike to assess the Minister’s statements objectively, asserting that some of his remarks, though controversial, were grounded in truth. He criticized the attempt to turn political rivalry into an ethnic issue, stressing that the Ijaw people never declared PDP as their official party.

“Governor Diri should address his issues with Wike within the PDP framework and stop involving the Ijaw people in matters that are strictly political,” Eradiri concluded.
